The Huotari family society is based in Kuhmo/Finland and so far it has no actual activities in english.
The main idea of the society is to gather together the descendants of the first Huotari in Kuhmo - Tuomas Huotari (probably born between 1559-1567). Today the society has about 550 members. Most of them living in Finland. I have to point out that every Huotari living in Finland can't be connected with this common ancestor. However we're not too strict about this regarding the membership. We find it far more important to encourage our members to make their own genealogical studies (even small ones) to increase the knowledge about the name, family and our possible common ancestors.
DATABASE & GENEALOGY
The organsation published a family book in the summer 2008 at our family festival that took place in Kuhmo. We've been gathering information for this publication ever since the society was founded. In the begining of year 2008 we had about 11,450 persons in our database. If you're interested I can check the database to see whether your ancestors can be found in the database. In order to do this I will need as old and correct information from you as possible. We don't yet have too many Huotari's living abroad in the database so if your roots go back to Finland then I'll rather have the facts of the first ancestor of yours that was born in Finland. The more accurate your information is eg. complete names, birthdates and birthplaces the better chances I have in tracing the choises down to the right person. If some information is missing then there'll always be some uncertainty about the result.
If we find the connection and we get your permission to include you in our database I'll send you the complete line of ancestors down to our first known ancestor Tuomas Huotari.
